Self-representation defense vs. Defense with Attorneys

Self-representation defense vs. Defense with Attorneys

There is absolutely no requirement that you need to defend yourself by self-representation in court. Also there is no requirement that you need to defend yourself with a defense attorney. However this can be perfectly answered only on the basis of the trial that is going on against you. If you are not ready to spend penny for a case which appears to you that your opponent has no valid statements and if you have good proof to support your side you can choose defense by self-representation. Court can provide you with resources which can give legal advice and court proceeding rules but you can’t seek help in terms of trial that is they can’t get any information saying the side most probably expected to win, etc. And there is lot of preparation that one must incur before representing themselves in court. They should represent exactly following same steps that an attorney will follow while representing in court. Some self-representation cases can favor you in terms of sympathy from court, which tilts the case to your side.

If you decide to defend yourself then be prepared to do these things at least. Collect evidence in statements/person and seek advice from Magistrate of Chamber or Legal Community Centre. Also there is another end. Analysis shows that self-representation defense was not successful while defending against a well versed attorney, who can actually tilt the whole case towards them with their judicial experience. So, unless having a strong reason it is generally not recommended to go for defense by self-representation.
